On October 12 and 13, 2024, the FAI Autumn Days (Giornate FAI d'Autunno) offer an unmissable opportunity: visiting the Capo Peloro Lighthouse, one of the most fascinating attractions in Messina, usually closed to the public. Located at the northeastern tip of Sicily, this lighthouse is not only a historical and cultural symbol but also plays a crucial role in ensuring maritime safety in the Strait of Messina.

Discover the Capo Peloro Lighthouse Originally built in 1857 and later rebuilt in 1935, the Capo Peloro Lighthouse is an imposing octagonal tower with distinctive black and white stripes. Visible from 22 nautical miles away, it has guided sailors for centuries through the turbulent waters of the Strait of Messina, a passage known for its strong currents and the mythical legends of Scylla and Charybdis.
During the FAI Autumn Days, the visit to the lighthouse is free and no reservation is required. Guided tours will be organized every hour, with groups of up to 8 people, and each tour will last about 30 minutes.
The opening hours are:
Saturday, October 12: 09:30 AM - 1:00 PM / 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM (last entry at 4:30 PM)
Sunday, October 13: 09:30 AM - 1:00 PM / 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM (last entry at 4:30 PM)
You can explore the lower part of the lighthouse, and for those willing to climb the 170 steps, enjoy a spectacular view over Capo Peloro, the Sicilian coast, and even the shores of Calabria.
Capo Peloro: Where Nature and Myth Meet
The lighthouse is set in a unique natural environment, where the Tyrrhenian and Ionian seas meet, creating extraordinary marine phenomena like whirlpools and currents that have inspired ancient legends. Visiting Capo Peloro means immersing yourself not only in history but also in the beauty of the surrounding nature, perfect for panoramic walks or activities like marine wildlife observation.
